    number of candidates in the week starting 3 August 2009 which is & a+ D- a5 S) p$ b7 X% S8 Q
    designed to show postholders what the job of a Patent Attorney ; m5 B1 S0 O: P% V1 l2 u/ r( y
    really entails. Successful candidates will receive first hand
8 E& W; h4 x' U& q7 h9 a    experience dealing with the UK Patent Office on high tech matters # D" ^( \, R+ m9 R
    within their own field and will be shown the basics of patent + g# }1 k, _2 i) `
    drafting. Finally, successful candidates will handle a
: D$ n8 h( h2 @/ o3 L$ G1 M    contentious matter using skills learnt over the course of the
: {5 q. H# m6 W9 T7 v, r    placement to defend or challenge a patent against other placement
7 a! o' s6 s6 x5 I3 e  ^4 H    students with an audience of patent attorneys.
