The British Consulate General in Guangzhou represents the United Kingdom across southern China. Our main roles include: developing trade and investment opportunities for the UK; and promoting bilateral co-operation between the British government and the provincial governments of southern China on issues such as climate change, tackling international crime, and education. ; V! }1 _8 d& P% L, IWe are looking to recruit 2 Trade & Investment/Inward Investment officers who will work closely with a Senior Trade & Investment/Inward Investment Officer and with the wider Trade & Investment team whose main objectives are to promote British trade and investment into southern China and promote the UK as the best inward investment location for potential investors in South China. g" k6 p5 T1 A) u, }$ W, n

Your role in the section will include: 1 z/ `' [) {! J. x8 P; P( R! G' r
- Organisation of trade seminars, inward and outward missions and visiting programmes for VIP’s0 u8 W6 i$ j P A% X2 M. F
- Research on specified industrial sectors/companies in Southern China * e/ [& z! P7 v9 `, @: l3 f( C- Briefings and reports for UK and Chinese organisations and companies 0 K( d9 H1 T+ b- t; U- Supporting senior staff in contact building, and building a personal network of working level contacts 0 @& c) i6 q9 r. O
0 j1 Z. Q, k( g5 {( R- m& z3 b8 D& CThe skills and experience that we are looking for include:, t1 U5 ]' s3 k, T; e' ]$ C
, S% @0 l$ M0 P$ o1 K4 D' o- Fluency in written and spoken Mandarin, Cantonese and English. Experience of translation and/or interpretation helpful, F( j6 G1 `4 B+ ?% P
- Some previous work experience is essential. Commercial experience, including in a foreign organisation, would be desirable ; @+ B! {3 s/ R( ]- Some knowledge of the UK and its commercial environment would be an advantage! A9 ]7 u+ F h
- Excellent self-management, good organisational abilities and an eye for detail) b/ u2 E3 C5 {* E T5 b
- Able to work as part of a team and adapt to changing circumstances 4 }5 B4 A1 R3 g% R& A$ x- A good working knowledge of computer office programmes, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook U$ l; f. p2 _4 T3 P9 w, F- u' V- S- |" ~8 F! {
