We opened our first stores internationally in central Europe in 1995. Today, we operate in 13 countries across the globe, employ over 400,000 employees and have some 3,000 stores worldwide. Our most recent venture is to the West Coast of the United States. Our International Business is now the main focus for our future growth./ q' W4 [: g, g* q

As a graduate at Tesco, you'll be part of an exciting, growing and transforming business - we currently have more shop floor space overseas than in the UK and this is just the beginning of where we want to get to.0 g8 j% _* P! P  ~8 L9 M/ R  n

& q7 E/ T! f9 O2 ]! s! ~* j" oIn 2004 we introduced Tesco to China and now trade in more than 54 hypermarkets, employing close to 26,000 people. Growing our number of stores by 20% next year, we plan to move out of the Shanghai area and focus on other parts of China (we opened our first store in Beijing in 2007). In September 2006 we launched our own-brand Legou Value products in our Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang stores, with over 1,000 product lines now to our name.

The emergence of international retailing is not something that happens overnight - it requires a long term approach. Our approach to International retail is simple. It's about being flexible, building market share and developing capability. Each market is unique and therefore requires a unique approach. In every country our offer is local - we respond to local cultures, local customers, local supply chains and local regulations. It's about meeting our customer's needs by doing those little things that mean a lot.

Working as a buyer in Tesco Commercial is challenging, I was surprised by the amount of responsibility I was given at such an early stage as a graduate trainee. Working alongside talented and driven people provides me great support and encouragement from senior sponsors and colleagues. Every decision we make has tangible result, I really enjoy seeing goals achieved, which makes me feel that I can really contribute something to the biggest UK retailer and gives me great motivation. With other graduates started in the same year as me, we support each other when we're having bad days, but also celebrate success!"

"The program places me in a real job from day one and I have the responsibility and the opportunity to make a difference. It's very rewarding to feel that I am making a valuable contribution to the business. In Clubcard I've improved my technical and analytical skills and developed the relationship with our agencies. Most importantly, both my colleagues and senior sponsors are always supportive. This really helped me to cross over all difficulties."
